Living near several beaches, lakes, and rivers in South Texas, our family loves pitching camp along the water’s edge. Nothing beats Texas’s brutal summers like swimming in the cool emerald waters of Canyon Lake or the Guadalupe River.
Among the anglers casting their lines and the occasional canoe, we’ll from time to time spot a lone figure who appears to be standing on the surface of the water, slowly gliding along with the current in the shade of the towering cypress trees.
When we discovered the secret to this seemingly miraculous feat was what appeared to be an oversized surfboard ruddered by a paddle, we became intrigued.

What is Paddle Boarding?
Paddle boarding, or stand-up paddle boarding (SUP), is a sport that combines elements of surfing and kayaking. The act of standing upright on an elongated board and paddling yourself along the surface of lakes, rivers, ponds, or seashores has experienced an explosion in popularity over the last decade.
The sport’s proponents tout the numerous health benefits of paddle boarding, including a full-body workout that builds strength and tests your balance, along with the opportunity to commune with nature in a way that feels both primitive and modern at the same time.
Paddle boarding is a sport that can be done in solitude or with the whole family (provided everyone has learned how to swim).
Even younger children who are too young to pilot their own board can don a life jacket and perch on the nose of Mom or Dad’s board in calm waters.
It’s a great way to add some variety to your family’s waterside adventures!

1. Bluefin Cruise Inflatable Paddle Board
Bluefin is a family business founded by ocean lovers that has been making dependable, stylish inflatable paddle boards for over 10 years.
Not only are their boards made with the most rugged materials and construction, providing stable and rigid boards, they also provide an unprecedented 5-year warranty on their boards.
You’ll be hard-pressed to find another maker of inflatable SUPs that is willing to back their product for that long.
- 5-year warranty (!!!)
- Supremely rigid, stable board construction
- Comfortable carrying backpack
- Quality hand pump
- Kayak conversion provides added versatility
- Rugged, unsinkable paddle
- On-board gear storage is a bit lacking
2. GILI Air Inflatable Paddle Board
Named after the Indonesian archipelago islands between Bali and Lombok, GILI Sports includes thoughtful details in their boards and included accessories that many other manufacturers sacrifice for a lower price point.
Founder Jay Regan is committed to sharing the company’s profits with various ocean charities and commits annual funds and time to beach clean-ups and saving endangered aquatic wildlife.
Your purchase of a GILI paddle board will help protect the oceans and lakes that make the sport so enchanting.

4. FITWAVE Inflatable Paddle Board (Best Under $200)
Finding a trustworthy paddle board package under $200 is a sketchy ordeal. At this price point, materials and craftsmanship can be hyped up by duplicitous advertising or outright dishonesty and warranties seem to disappear.
We won’t over-hype the FITWAVE. There’s no warranty (at least that we could find), only the manufacturer’s promise to be helpful if you contact them with an issue.
Customers have complained of cosmetic issues with the graphics and occasional structural issues with the board; however, for such a low price point, the FITWAVE has been met with great success and owners of the board have some great things to say.
- High consumer ratings
- Same quality materials as SUPs twice the price
- Suitable for children and adults at all skill levels
- Surprisingly fast with a tight turning radius
- Spacious backpack
- Short on onboard gear storage
- No warranty information that we could find

7. Outdoor Master Solar Spirit Inflatable Paddle Board
Outdoor Master’s claim to fame is that they deliberately state that their paddleboards are constructed to handle abuse (although their warranty will only cover manufacturer’s defects).
That being said, their Solar Spirit is a BIG board (11’6″ x 34″), capable of cruising comfortably even with 300+ lbs. aboard making it great if you have dogs or children riding along.
The larger size adds substantially to its stability, making it easy to pilot on calm as well as choppy water.

8. Outdoor Master Violet Spirit Inflatable Paddle Board
A smaller version of the Solar Spirit, the violet Spirit was designed with the ladies in mind; however, it is essentially a quality, ruggedly-built all-around SUP suitable for paddlers that wish for a smaller, lighter board.

Here is a quality all-around board for beginners and casual paddle boarders who are of average weight and stick to calm waters and slow currents.

The TIKI is a well-made, inexpensive all-around board good for cruising, yoga, fishing, and recreational paddling in calm waters or light chop.

- 6-point bungee gear storage and D-rings
- 3 removable fins
- Adjustable aluminum paddle
- High-pressure pump
- Travel backpack
- Elastic safety leash
- Phone dry sack
- The price point is great for those who are just trying the sport out or don't want to commit a large sum
- The board is solid and stable for such an inexpensive price tag
- Nice and light!
- Only a 1-year warranty (which is not that bad for such a low-cost board)
- Fins fit tight in the fin box (which is good for cruising) but it makes it difficult to install them
- Inflating this thing above 12 psi is an arm workout
- The quality of the pump and backpack is compromised ... wears out quickly.
11. Bestway Hydro-Force Oceana Inflatable Paddle Board
For starters, nailing down the price on this one is a little weird. While Amazon advertises it for $249.95, the Bestway website has it for $73.82 (?!?).
Um, I think someone goofed.
We say go with Bestway before someone figures out the mistake!
Stability is the focus of the Hydro-Force Oceana’s design. With a wide 33″ deck that boasts a 6″ thickness, even the wobbliest landlubbers will feel comfortable finding their footing.
Although an inexpensive board, Bestway committed to using industry-standard materials for their board, making it rigid and sturdy. Even with a short warranty, the board is sure to provide years of moderate use if taken care of.

- 10′ length

- Designed with stability as a top priority
- Only a 6-month warranty
- Built for slower speeds (not necessarily a bad thing)
12. Aqua Plus 11’ Inflatable Paddle Board
The Aqua Plus 11′ Inflatable Stand Up Paddle Board is a wonderful choice if you’re searching for a cheap yet good quality all-around paddle board that comes with everything you’ll need to get on the water.
It is suitable for yoga, fishing, short-distance touring, and cruising on lakes, rivers, and oceans. The board is stable enough to accommodate paddlers weighing up to 280 pounds.
However, if you’re looking for a board that’s more suited to speed (full-on touring, racing, etc), or an extremely maneuverable one (for surfing waves, etc), this is not the board for you.
Notable Features:
- Drop stitch core with single-layer PVC
- 11′ Length
- 20.3 lbs.
- Weight capacity 350 lbs. (280 lbs. to be more realistic)

- The included pump is a workout. We recommend investing in an electric.
13. DAMA Nature Inflatable Paddle Board (254)
Here’s a board that toasts to the good ol’ fashioned natural wooden decks that ruled the waves before plastic took over the world.
The DAMA Nature 9’6 inflatable SUP is a great option for smaller or average-sized paddlers due to its length (9’6″) and width (30″) ratio.
It’s good for a little bit of everything as an all-around, but I’d say it’s more surfing-oriented due to how short it is.
It performs well on flat waters, but can also handle the little more rough waters to an extent (rivers, seas, etc).
Notable Features:
- Drop stitch core with enhanced single-layer PVC
- 9’6″ length
- 17 lbs.
- Weight capacity 275 lbs. (150 lbs. to be realistic)
- Sport camera mount
- Adjustable paddle
- Double action pump
- Removable fin
- Carry backpack
- Safety leash
- Phone dry sack
- 5L waterproof bag for personal gear
- Repair kit
Pros:
- Classic wood-board styling
- The camera mount is a nice touch
- Super light and easy to transport
- A perfect cheap option for general use
Cons:
- Only a 1-year warranty
- Not a good pick for larger, heavier paddlers
- Balancing could be a challenge for newbies due to the short length
Helpful Tip: To be honest, we’re getting down to that price point among paddle boards where quality becomes significantly questionable and manufacturers become shy about warranty information.
Still, we’ve included the following as low-priced options basis that they still offer a viable option for those who are just trying the sport or enjoy casual paddle boarding from time to time.
14. Ciays Inflatable Paddle Board
The Ciays Paddle Board is a great SUP for anyone looking for a quality, affordable SUP.
The board is made of military-grade triple-layer PVC and is reinforced with a core of ultra-reinforced composite drop-stitched fibers, making it durable and airtight.
It also has a non-slip EVA pad and comes with an adjustable, unsinkable aluminum paddle, making it perfect for any skill level.
The Ciays Paddle Board also includes a premium hand pump and a (we think) 1-year warranty.
Notable Features:
- Drop stitch core with military-grade triple-layer PVC
- 10’5″ length
- 28 lbs.
- Weight capacity 330 lbs. (more likely about 280 lbs. to maintain stability)
- Adjustable, unsinkable aluminum and nylon paddles
- Removable center fin
- Double-action hand pump
- 5L waterproof gear bag
- Phone dry sack
- Carrying backpack
- Safety leash
- Repair kit
- Good-quality all-around SUP for a fair price
- The well-equipped package provides similar accessories offered by higher-priced competitors
- Ciays commits to planting a tree for each board purchased
- Not built for speed
- Not as sturdy or rigid as others at a slightly higher price point
- Carry backpack and pump quality seem to have been compromised in the interest of a lower price point
- Ciays does not make finding warranty information easy ... we think it's 1-year based on the Amazon Technical Details.

- Does not include industry-standard drop-stitch (provides rigidity when inflated) in the construction
16. ABYSUP Inflatable Paddle Board
For a low-priced paddle board, the awkwardly-named ABYSUP Inflatable Paddle Board doesn’t sacrifice quality. It’s constructed with military-grade PVC, making it rigid and durable, and features an anti-slip soft padded deck.
The advanced Rubber-Drop air valve system effectively reduces air valve leakage, while the leak-proof rotary valve is an added convenience.
The board also comes with an upgraded aluminum paddle with adjustable height to fit paddlers of different heights.
In terms of performance, the ABYSUP Inflatable Paddle Board tracks well thanks to its 9” single fin and two 3” side fins. It’s also easy to carry and transport thanks to its mere 21.5 pounds.

- Um ... where are the D-rings?
- Susceptible to over-inflating ... using a powered pump is not recommended.
17. awesafe Inflatable Paddle Board (289)
I am typically wary of products bestowed with awkward names whose product descriptions are froth with grammar and spelling issues; however, not everything coming out of the Orient is terrible. Sometimes, I am surprised.
The paddle board from awesafe is one of these rare instances where I was pleasantly surprised. This inflatable stand-up paddle board is made of the highest quality material, featuring a lightweight drop-stitch core for greater compression and resilience.
It also has an EVA form deck pad that makes standing on the board much more stable and comfortable.
At only 17.2 pounds, this paddle board is one of the lightest on the market, and its dimensions (10’ long, 32” wide, and 6” thick) make it ideal for use in the ocean, lakes, rivers, and even for yoga or fishing.
The package comes with everything you need for a successful paddle boarding trip: a detachable fin, an adjustable premium alloy paddle, a safety leash, a manual air pump, and a waterproof bag for essentials such as your cellphone, keys, and wallet.
The best part about this product is that it comes with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty, something that is very rare for products coming out of China.

- Only one D-ring ... limited gear storage options
18. Famistar Inflatable Paddle Board
Continuing our selection of funky-named paddle-boards, the Famistar (what a weird mash-up) is a BIG iSUP that is a good no-frills board for casual paddlers.
It’s built ruggedly with 12-gauge PVC and military-grade double coatings, making it incredibly durable and capable of withstanding crashes on rocks or other common paddle board mishaps.
The textured EVA deck pad provides good grip even when wet and feels comfortable to stand, kneel, or sit on. Its large size also provides plenty of room to accommodate a child or pet, do yoga, or for other activities.
Best of all, it comes with a complete set of accessories, including an adjustable paddle, manual pump, removable fins, ankle leash, repair kit, carrying bag, and user manual.
Notable Features:
- Military-grade PVC with drop-stitch core

20. Dattdey Inflatable Paddle Board
Can you score a quality paddle board for under $150? Could it be true?

Choosing a Quality Paddle Board: What to Look For
When choosing a worthwhile paddle board that will provide you with the best experience, it’s important to keep a few key factors in mind. We consider the following the most important things to consider when choosing a paddle board:
1.) Type: Inflatable vs Solid Paddle Boards
There are two main types of paddle boards to choose from: inflatable and solid. Inflatable boards are typically less expensive and much lighter than solid ones, but they may not be as durable or stable on the water.
Solid boards require more storage space and are troublesome to transport, but they usually provide a better overall experience on the water.
We consider the tradeoff to tilt in favor of inflatable boards; so, our review focuses exclusively on those.
2.) Size and Weight
Paddle Boards come in a variety of sizes and weight capacities. It’s important to choose a size that will be comfortable for you to use, as well as one that can accommodate your weight.
Heavier paddle boards may be more stable on the water, but they can also be harder to transport.
3.) Materials and Craftsmanship (Including Warranty)
The industry standard for paddleboard construction includes military-grade, multi-layer PVC surrounding a drop-stitch core. While the term “military-grade” is dubious at best, it most likely refers to hyped-up reinforced marine-grade PVC (which simply means it’s UV resistant, puncture-resistant, and watertight).
The drop-stitch core is essential to inflatables as it reinforces the rigidity of the board when fully inflated. A board without a drop-stitch core should never be considered.
With regards to warranty coverage, anything less than 2 years should be considered suspicious. Anything more (such as Bluefin’s 5-year warranty) is a testament to the manufacturer’s faith in their product.
4.) Stability and Performance
Paddle boards are designed to be as stable and responsive as possible, but this can vary depending on the materials used and the design of the board.
Wider, shorter boards are more stable, but sacrifice speed. Longer and narrower boards require the paddler to work harder to maintain balance but cut through the water at a higher speed.
5.) Common and Unique Features and Accessories
In addition to the more basic considerations like size and materials, there are often other features that can set one paddle board apart from another.
Some boards may come with accessories like paddles, leashes, and carrying bags while others may feature additional stability features like 3 fins as opposed to one center fin.
If you have specific preferences when it comes to features, make sure to look for a board that can accommodate these.
7.) Price
Ultimately, the cost of a paddle board will be one of the most important factors to consider. Keep in mind that more expensive boards may offer better performance and durability; but, this is not always the case.
There are many lower-priced, quality options available on the market today.
Carefully research your options before making a final decision about which paddle board is right for you.
Wrapping Up the Best Affordable Paddle Boards of 2022
In conclusion, the best affordable paddle boards of 2022 are those that can provide the best overall experience on the water while remaining … well, affordable.
When choosing a paddle board, it’s important to consider things like size and materials as well as unique features and accessories.
Ultimately, the price will also be the hinge point in your decision.
With so many great options available, there’s no need to make waves in the savings account to ride the waves on a quality board.
Now, get out there!
